About Public Release Data

Welcome to the home page for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety’s public release data. These data sets are typically used to respond to public records requests and made available to the public free of charge. The datasets do not contain personally identifiable information (PII) or information that might be otherwise be restricted by state or federal law or regulation. The data is captured periodically, with content typically remaining static for the period being reported. Some datasets are captured by calendar year, some by fiscal year (July 1st thru June 30th), with some sets separately recorded for both calendar and fiscal year periods.

The datasets are generally self-explanatory but in some cases there are associated definition files. Where possible the datasets are provided in Microsoft© Excel™ format. Due to complexity of underlying data, some files may contain multiple tables of related information. Where the datasets are deemed not compatible with spreadsheet format, the files are dumped in raw Comma Separated Value (CSV) files that can be further processed by the receiving party.
